Self-Study Starter Kit: Japanese

I’ve been to Japan many times now, but for some reason I always resisted learning Japanese. I suppose part of me was worried it would interfere with my Korean. Maybe a more truthful part of me was …

平安夜快乐! Merry Xmas Eve (in Chinese, liter 平安夜快乐! Merry Xmas Eve (in Chinese, literally "Peaceful Night"). I brought a big batch of coquito (a Puerto Rican Christmas drink) and our friends made German, Belorussian, and Chinese goodies 😋

Best of all, check out the gingerbread 大白 (hazmatted health workers) that our friend made...all that was missing was a little gingerbread QR registration station. Will those all soon be a distant memory?

I also love that you never have to wear heels to a house party in China...just your nicest slippers. Petition to make party slippers a thing worldwide?
🐑了吗 ?(swipe through the pics to see the 🐑):

In Mandarin, "yang" can mean both "sheep" or "positive" (as in, a positive COVID-test result), and Chinese netizens have been taking full advantage of that pun for the last few weeks, since we said farewell to COVID-Zero policy here. I've seen a lot of sheep lately.

But hello again, Beijing friends!! After 6 months of travel, 1 week of quarantine, a couple weeks of lockdown, and then 开放 and literally everyone getting sick at the same time...I had almost forgotten what you looked like. It is so wonderful to mess up your hair, to steal sips of your beer. Did you all get better looking? You all definitely got better looking.

And now I’m updating the rest of my language videos for a fun little upcoming project that I hope I can talk about soon 😇

Help me out! What are your favorite strategies for refreshing and updating rusty language skills?

It has been awhile,
I’ve come a long way.
Sorry for being so late.

Finally home sweet home in Beijing ❤️

I’m thankful for so many things this week: that I made it back into China, that my quarantine conditions are pretty decent (just 1 more day at the quarantine center - I hope! And then three more days at home.)

It has been a pretty wild ride to get back, not gonna lie. I've been posting about my journey back to China and my quarantine life in my stories.

Thankful à tous mes amis, a todos mis amiguitos for making quarantine time fly by with your silly memes and encouraging messages. 🙏

So thankful for @obe_fitness online boxing classes!

And really thankful these windows open ☀️🍃

So where's the party at in Beijing when I get out? We all going clubbing? 😂😅😅🥹😭
